Questions & Answers

What is the 100-cm Nordost Valkyrja RCA cable used for?

The interconnect cable is designed to transmit analog audio signals from a source device to a preamplifier or amplifier with high signal integrity and low signal loss.

What does “MoonGlo RCA” mean in the specifications?

These are Nordost’s special RCA plugs with a spring-loaded outer sleeve, designed so that the center pins make contact before the ground, to minimize hum when connecting.

What is the transmission speed, or “velocity of propagation,” of the Valkyrja RCA?

Approximately 94% of the speed of light within the cable’s cross-sectional area.

What are the specifications for capacitance and inductance?

Capacitance is around 25–30 pF per foot; inductance is low, approximately 0.06 µH per foot, which minimizes signal distortion and phase shift.

What equipment is the Valkyrja RCA compatible with?

With any analog device that has an ungrounded RCA output or input; ideal for systems where balance or noise sensitivity are not critical.

What is the best way to install the cable?

Make sure the cable is not taut or bent; avoid very long lengths to minimize capacitive effects; keep connectors clean to ensure good contact.

How do you handle the cable correctly when connecting or disconnecting it?

Always disconnect the power first; press the plug firmly but gently into the RCA jack without jerking it; keep the plug straight to prevent damage to the pins.

What about noise or interference from the Valkyrja RCA?

Thanks to the MoonGlo plugs and full shielding, ground loops and electromagnetic interference are kept to a minimum.

Can the connectors be replaced or swapped out for XLR connectors?

No, the Valkyrja comes equipped with fixed MoonGlo RCA plugs; retermination or conversion to XLR is generally not offered.

SoundStage! – Equipment Review – Nordost Valkyrja Interconnects and Speaker Cables

shows that the Nordost Valkyrja interconnect and speaker cables are characterized by exceptional neutrality and high resolution, while preserving detail in the bass and delivering an open, airy presentation. The monofilament Teflon construction contributes to very low capacitance and inductance, resulting in a sound with minimal coloration. The cables deliver excellent detail without sounding harsh or over-emphasized, and are praised as being nearly “colorless” compared to other high-end options; the Valkyrja is particularly well-suited for those who want to hear their existing equipment “as is.”

UltraAudio

describes the Valkyrja speaker cable as “the best speaker cable I’ve had in this system” after extensive comparison; it scores high on precision, tonality, and the conveyance of ambiance. The cable renders instruments with surprisingly lifelike reproduction, particularly in the higher frequencies, and the bass is tight and well-positioned without excessive mushy quality. The review makes it clear that any imperfection in the source components becomes audible, since the Valkyrja corrects very little—it lays everything bare.

10Audio

states that Valkyrja’s greatest strength lies in its ability to balance group sound with imaging and soundstage construction; the spatial image is better than that of many competitors. However, compared to the Valhalla, it is noted that the Valkyrja offers slightly less air in the upper register and slightly less sparkle in the high frequencies—a subtle difference that only becomes apparent after focused listening tests. Nevertheless, these subtleties are not viewed as shortcomings, but rather as a sign that the Valkyrja comes closer to the Valhalla than many other “price-competitive” models.

World Radio History – Roy Gregory: “Nordost Valkyrja – making monofilament cables more affordable”

explains that the Valkyrja is designed to incorporate many of Valhalla’s technologies—such as micro-monofilament winding—while featuring a slightly lower number of conductors (for example, seven versus ten). Roy Gregory praises the cables for their speed, detail, and transparency; the cables reveal a great deal of nuance, particularly in the bass and midrange frequencies, without sacrificing character or liveliness. He does note, however, that in systems that deliver a great deal of air and sparkle, the Valhalla is better able to preserve those characteristics, which can make the Valkyrja sound slightly less sparkling in this regard.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this.
