The Linn Majik DSM/4 was designed in Scotland and built entirely at the Linn factory in Glasgow. The unit combines streaming, a DAC, and a preamplifier in a single enclosure. Designed according to Linn’s “single-box simplicity” philosophy, it uses carefully selected components, including a proprietary Class-D amplifier module and custom circuit boards. The chassis is made of precision-machined aluminum for optimal resonance control and thermal management. Internal wiring is kept short to minimize signal loss. Developed by Linn’s in-house R&D team, led by engineers such as Gilad Tiefenbrun.
Linn was founded in 1973 by Ivor Tiefenbrun. It started with the production of the Sondek LP12, a turntable that was continuously improved in the following years. One of the first innovations was the introduction of an external power supply, the Valhalla, and other important developments followed later, such as the introduction of the Lingo power supply system in 1990. In 1986, Linn released the Troika cartridge, which provided improved signal reproduction. In the 1990s, Linn expanded its offerings to include digital products, such as the Karik/Numerik CD player, and launched the Knekt multiroom system in 1994. Linn builds almost everything in-house.
