Linn really knows its stuff! These guys make incredibly tight-sounding systems. The Akurate DSM/1 comes across as a perceptive storyteller: vocal lines are clearly layered, and instruments breathe all around you without anything overpowering the others. Hi-hats sparkle, guitars cut through with precision, and deep notes pack a punch while remaining well-defined. Ambience is woven into space and contrast.

Background Information
The Linn Akurate DSM/1 is a state-of-the-art network player with roots in Scotland. Linn, known for its precision and innovation in the hi-fi world, uses high-quality materials and components to ensure optimal sound quality. The chassis is sturdy and carefully designed to minimize resonance. Linn’s team of engineers, including Gilad Tiefenbrun, strives for perfect signal integrity through advanced internal wiring and carefully selected components. Production takes place in their own facilities, where precise methods are employed to ensure quality.
Brand History
Linn was founded in 1973 by Ivor Tiefenbrun. It started with the production of the Sondek LP12, a turntable that was continuously improved in the following years. One of the first innovations was the introduction of an external power supply, the Valhalla, and other important developments followed later, such as the introduction of the Lingo power supply system in 1990. In 1986, Linn released the Troika cartridge, which provided improved signal reproduction. In the 1990s, Linn expanded its offerings to include digital products, such as the Karik/Numerik CD player, and launched the Knekt multiroom system in 1994. Linn builds almost everything in-house. Questions & Answers

What audio formats are supported by the Linn Akurate DSM/1?

Can this unit be used as a preamplifier for active speakers or as a power source in a system?

Yes, because all analog and digital outputs are volume-controlled, so it can be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers.

How do you connect external sources, such as a turntable?

There is an RCA input that can be configured for Moving Magnet (MM) or Moving Coil (MC) phono, in addition to analog line inputs and XLR balanced inputs.

How do the volume and input selection controls work?

You can control the system using the front-panel buttons, the included infrared remote, or the Linn App / other UPnP control points.

Is a wireless network connection possible?

No, a wired Ethernet connection is preferred; Linn does not recommend a wireless connection for audio streaming due to stability concerns.

Yes, there are four HDMI inputs and one HDMI output; the HDMI input ports can be used for video/audio sources, and the output transmits video to a display.

What is Exakt Link, and what is it used for?

Exakt Link is a proprietary protocol developed by Linn that enables the synchronization and transfer of high-resolution audio data with low jitter between the DSM and Exakt speakers or tuneboxes.

Can it work with multiple sources at the same time (multi-room / multi-input)?

Yes, external sources can be connected via various inputs and selected using the control app or remote control; streaming from multiple sources, such as NAS devices or online services, is possible via UPnP and internet services.

How much power does the device consume in active and sleep modes?

In active mode, the Akurate DSM/1 consumes approximately 30 watts; in sleep mode, approximately 26–27 watts (depending on whether the HDMI function is disabled).

Reviews & awards | Linn Akurate DSM/1

Hi-Fi Choice

: The
Hi-Fi Choice
review praises the Linn Akurate DSM as a “state-of-the-art streamer and digital hub” that supports nearly all modern audio formats up to 24-bit/192 kHz. The audio reproduction is described as exceptionally lively and musical, with much greater detail and focus audible even with CD-quality source material. The only caveat is the lack of a USB input, which some may view as a limitation.

TechRadar

: According to TechRadar, the Akurate components offer a transparent and precise soundstage, with an open sound reminiscent of Linn’s Majik line, albeit with greater clarity and articulation. The review also notes that at higher frequencies, the tonal balance comes across as somewhat light or “lean,” and that the lower midrange/bass seems somewhat limited at certain listening volumes or in certain rooms.

U-Audio (Taiwan)

: A listening report praises the combination of the Akurate DSM and Akubarik speakers for its rich detail, even at extremely high sound pressure levels without distortion. The reviewer also praises the musical expression across genres: from classical music such as Mozart to powerful rock, with consistently fluid dynamics and a relaxed yet narrative-driven sound.

Aktives-Hören.de

: According to this German-language review, the Akurate DSM is at least as good as the G-Sneaky, especially in terms of refinement and sonic detail. In a home setting, the integration between the Akurate DSM and compatible equipment proves to be crucial: improper matching can lead to overdrive issues or less accurate reproduction.

CD

Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this.
