The KEF R3 Meta is a three-way bookshelf speaker that excels in sound quality and design. With the 12th generation Uni-Q® driver array and Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™), this speaker delivers clear and natural sound. The hybrid aluminum bass driver provides tight and controlled bass. Thanks to the Uni-Q® design, the sound is evenly dispersed, resulting in a wider sweet spot. The R3 Meta is available in a variety of finishes, including high gloss black, high gloss white, walnut and a special indigo high gloss edition. With its compact size and versatility, the R3 Meta is suitable for both music and home theater applications.
The KEF R3 Meta is designed according to KEF’s acoustic philosophy: clear, accurate sound with minimal distortion. The speaker features the latest Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), which absorbs unwanted resonances up to 99%. The cabinet is reinforced with Constrained Layer Damping for reduced vibration. Developed by KEF’s acoustics team led by Jack Oclee-Brown.
KEF was founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke in Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom. The name derives from Kent Engineering & Foundry, where the original workshop was located on the site of Kent Engineering’s steel construction plant. Raymond Cooke was a former BBC audio engineer. From the beginning, the company used synthetic materials and made measurements under controlled conditions. In 1973, a special acoustic laboratory was opened for technical developments. In 1988 KEF developed the Uni-Q driver, in which the treble and midrange speakers are placed together in one axis. Since 2005, it has been headquartered in East Sussex, Great Britain. Over the years, the brand has focused on construction of loudspeakers, including floorstanding models, bookshelf models and flush-mount speakers, as well as portable playback products.
