General description
The Conrad-Johnson ET6 SE is a tube preamplifier that closely follows the design of the GAT, Conrad-Johnson’s flagship product. With a triode vacuum tube for voltage amplification and zero-feedback line-stage circuitry, the ET6 SE offers sound quality far beyond what you would expect in this price range.
The preamplifier features six separate line-level inputs, including a “tape” loop and a theater loop, facilitating integration into a home theater system. In addition, there is an infrared remote control for all functions.
For vinyl enthusiasts, an optional phono stage is available, based on the zero-feedback audio circuit of the TEA1-S3 phono stage. You can choose between a high-gain version for cartridges with an output of 1.0 mV or less, and a low-gain version for cartridges with a higher output. The input resistance is switchable between 47 kOhm and 200 Ohm.
The ET6 SE uses high-quality components such as CJD Teflon capacitors and metal foil resistors at critical points in the circuit. This contributes to low noise and clear sound reproduction.
With its flexible connection options and attention to detail in design, the ET6 SE is a preamplifier that will appeal to music lovers and audiophiles alike.
Background information
The Conrad Johnson ET6 SE is designed according to Bill Conrad and Lew Johnson’s “less is more” philosophy: pure signal paths, minimal circuitry and no unnecessary features. The SE version uses CJD capacitors (proprietary design), Vishay precision resistors and point-to-point cabling. The cabinet is heavy-duty damped steel with aluminum front panel, handmade in the USA with premium components from selected suppliers.
