The KEF LS50 Meta is a compact speaker known for its accurate sound reproduction and detailed sound. Thanks to the Uni-Q driver array, where the tweeter is placed in the center of the woofer, a wide and consistent sound image is created.
The KEF LS50 Meta is designed as a high-end monitor model using KEF’s Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), which dampens unwanted resonances. The Uni-Q driver (12th generation) provides a wide stereo image. The cabinet is made of MDF with curved walls and a damping layer for minimal coloration. Developed under the direction of designer Jack Oclee-Brown.
KEF was founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke in Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom. The name derives from Kent Engineering & Foundry, where the original workshop was located on the site of Kent Engineering’s steel construction plant. Raymond Cooke was a former BBC audio engineer. From the beginning, the company used synthetic materials and made measurements under controlled conditions. In 1973, a special acoustic laboratory was opened for technical developments. In 1988 KEF developed the Uni-Q driver, in which the treble and midrange speakers are placed together in one axis. Since 2005, it has been headquartered in East Sussex, Great Britain. Over the years, the brand has focused on construction of loudspeakers, including floorstanding models, bookshelf models and flush-mount speakers, as well as portable playback products.
