The preamplifier is fully balanced in design, with two separate amplifiers, volume controls and SoundEngine modules per channel. This design minimizes distortion and ensures natural signal transmission. The unit features two balanced (XLR) and three unbalanced (RCA) inputs, plus a fixed-level Home Theatre input for integration into a home theater system. At the outputs, one balanced (XLR) and two unbalanced (RCA) variable outputs are available and can be used simultaneously. One of the unbalanced outputs can be set as a fixed output. With a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 130 dB and distortion of less than 0.005%, the unit delivers clean and accurate signal processing. It uses Hegel’s patented SoundEngine technology, which actively monitors the music signal and corrects intermodulation distortion via a feedforward design.
Hegel was founded in 1988 in Norway by Bent Holter, an engineer with a background in electrical engineering. Holter studied at Trondheim Technical Institute, where he specialized in signal processing and amplifier technology. His interest in the design and improvement of electronic circuits led to the creation of this company, which focused on developing high-quality electronic products.
