Reviews & awards | Cambridge Audio EXA100

Reviews:

Trusted Reviews

reviews the Cambridge Audio EXA100 as a highly capable amplifier that is a joy to listen to. It offers brilliant sound across all inputs, excellent connectivity and is very well built and easy to use. Cons are the lack of a phono input and significant functional overlap with the matching EXN100 streamer. Visually, the EXA100 closely resembles the cheaper CXA81 MkII.

What Hi-Fi?

describes the EXA100 as an impressive, powerful amplifier with extensive connectivity and large-scale, refined sound. Although the unit offers a clean, spacious and powerful sound with a wide soundstage and refined detail, it falls just slightly short of the top performers in its class.

Headfonia

notes that the EXA100 produces an energetic, full and big sound in the low frequencies, with excellent extension and drive in the sub-bass region. The amplifier offers a slightly heavier sound than some reference units, resulting in a more dynamic and room-filling sound. There is great resolution and texture in every bass note, especially in analog bass, where string plucks and their fine details are clearly audible.

StereoNET

emphasizes that the EXA100 offers a remarkable sense of space and scale, with an open and well-defined soundstage. Even in complex recordings, there is enough room for each element to come into its own without interference. The amplifier maintains its composition during significant changes in volume or intensity, and the sonic characteristics remain consistent regardless of the requested output.

Crutchfield

emphasizes that the EXA100, with its 100 watts per channel, delivers more power than the CXA81 MkII and does so with lower noise levels, thanks in part to its large toroidal transformer. The internal components share their origins with the powerful Edge M monoblock amplifier, contributing to precision, authority and musicality in the sound. The amplifier features four unbalanced stereo RCA inputs and one balanced stereo XLR input, with easy selection via the front panel or remote control.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this.
