Optical input, interference-free and therefore proven to be the better option with some dacs, although they are often limiting in bitrate (yet there are dacs that let in up to 24 bit/192 kHz). The cable used is hugely important we can report, we’d be happy to let you assess these differences.

SPDIF is the abbreviation for Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format. (Nice that we, as a small country, have had influence there!) It is a standard for the transmission of a digital signal between, for example, a streamer or CD drive to dac. The cable used makes quite a difference in playback. A standard cable shows mostly a messy and abundant low, and the middle and high sludge into a mess. There are many who dispute this. Be skeptical, but there has to be a time for evaluation.

Reviews & awards | Cambridge Audio CXN100

What Hi-Fi?

rates the Cambridge Audio CXN100 as a music streamer that surpasses its predecessor with improvements in clarity, precision, and spatial depth. The device offers extensive features and user-friendliness, setting the standard in its price range. A minor drawback is that it lacks some of the solid and warm sound of its predecessor.

7Review

emphasizes that the CXN100 combines traditional British hi-fi ideals with modern streaming and app-based control features. The device delivers a dynamic and engaging sound, while also offering extensive connectivity options, such as AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Chromecast.

T3

reports that Cambridge Audio has released an updated version of the CXN100, the CXN100 SE, with the main upgrade being the addition of an HDMI eARC port. This makes it easier to integrate the device with TVs, allowing users to enjoy enhanced audio from their television through their hi-fi system.

What Hi-Fi?

reports that the CXN100, normally priced at £899, is temporarily available for £799 at Richer Sounds, which is the lowest price since Black Friday. The device is praised for its audio clarity, rich and detailed sound, and ease of use, and is considered one of the best music streamers under £1,000.

What Hi-Fi?

compares the Cambridge Audio EXN100 with the Arcam ST25 and notes that the EXN100 offers broader connectivity options, including Bluetooth aptX HD and HDMI eARC, as well as support for higher-resolution files. However, the Arcam ST25 outperforms the EXN100 in sound quality, with a clearer, more transparent, and more emotionally engaging presentation.

Awards:

The Cambridge Audio CXN100 has been named "Best Music Streamer 2024" by T3, underscoring the device's excellence in its category.

CD

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
