Background information
The Bluesound Powernode 2i was designed by the NAD development team, known for their audio innovations. The focus was on combining high-quality audio performance with modern streaming capabilities. The enclosure is made of solid plastic with a matte finish, and internally sits a HybridDigital amplifier and a 32-bit/384kHz DAC. Everything is powered by technologies sourced from NAD and HiFi insights from the Lenbrook Group in Canada.
Brand history
Bluesound was founded in 2013 as part of Lenbrook Industries, a Canadian company that also includes the NAD Electronics and PSB Speakers brands. The brand was developed by a team of audio experts previously involved in designing high-fidelity equipment since the 1970s. Bluesound was born out of a desire to provide high-quality wireless audio and focuses on combining hi-fi sound quality with modern wireless technologies. The brand was born from a project that was originally intended to procure existing streaming technology, but eventually decided to develop the technology internally. This led to the creation of BluOS, a proprietary platform for managing and streaming high-resolution audio in a multi-room environment.

Also so tired of having to turn on your whole stack of components? If they have a so-called trigger (this one does), then you’re in the right place. Trigger cable in between, and everything switches each other on or off (as long as they don’t mix).

Nice thumping! The active subwoofer can be connected to the sub-out. The output signal is variable, so the volume of the subwoofer remains the same as that of the speakers.

Still prefer to place it out of sight? There is the option of looping the infrared signal from the remote control. You connect an infrared extender to this device, and you can still use the remote control while the device is in a cabinet. Just make sure there is adequate ventilation/airflow.

Optical input, interference-free and therefore proven to be the better option with some dacs, although they are often limiting in bitrate (yet there are dacs that let in up to 24 bit/192 kHz). The cable used is hugely important we can report, we’d be happy to let you assess these differences.

SPDIF is the abbreviation for Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format. (Nice that we, as a small country, have had influence there!) It is a standard for the transmission of a digital signal between, for example, a streamer or CD drive to dac. The cable used makes quite a difference in playback. A standard cable shows mostly a messy and abundant low, and the middle and high sludge into a mess. There are many who dispute this. Be skeptical, but there has to be a time for evaluation.

The network function allows you to connect it to your home network to send music from your PC, tablet or phone to the device. Depending on the device, there is its own app, use your music service’s app, or grab a streaming app like M-Connect, giving you full-fledged streaming functionality for music services like Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz.

Reviews & awards | Bluesound Node 2

What Hi-Fi?

rates the Bluesound Node 2 as a versatile music streamer with a well-balanced sound and a user-friendly app. However, they note that the device lacks detail and dynamics, and that its price tag is higher than that of some competing models that deliver better performance.

Techgoondu

They highlight the improvements of the Node 2 over its predecessor, such as its sleeker design and faster processor. They praise the simplicity of the touch controls and the speed at which it indexes music libraries.

Alpha Audio

highlight the flexibility and solid build quality of the Bluesound Node 2. They praise the device's sound quality and versatility, but note that the app sometimes fails to display album covers.

StereoNET

highlights the Bluesound Node 2's solid build quality and ease of use. They note that setup is simple and that the sound quality is impressive for its price range.

Audiophilepure

notes that the Bluesound Node 2 delivers solid performance, but that in terms of resolution and detail, it cannot compete with more expensive, specialized DACs. However, they emphasize that the device offers excellent value for the price.

CD

The Compact Disc (CD), like most inventions, did not appear out of thin air. After the invention of the laser in 1958, the first patent for optically readable disks was filed in 1961. The first digital video records were introduced in 1972. After a flop by Philips, the manufacturer, together with Sony, released the first CD in 1979. We do not know what it contained, but in 1982 the first CD was released for the market, it was the album Visitors by ABBA. In this year the first player became available and so began the elimination of the LP from the market. Many have literally thrown their LPs in the trash… we still see some visitors being disappointed when they tell us this. Velen hebben hun lp’s letterlijk bij het vuil gezet… sommige bezoekers zien wij nog steeds balen als ze dit vertellen.
