General description

The ATC SCM20ASL Classic is an active three-way studio monitor that integrates midrange, treble, and bass frequencies to provide direct audio amplification. This ATC SCM20ASL Classic studio monitor is known for its accurate reproduction and clarity in every detail, while maintaining transparency in the stereo image and natural dynamics. Thanks to the quality of the midrange, every element in a recording remains audible, while the high frequencies are accentuated without harshness.

With the ATC SCM20ASL Classic, the soundstage is wide and open: instruments and vocals seem to float away from the monitor, with a depth that makes listening a rewarding experience. The tonal balance remains consistent regardless of volume, ensuring that even quiet passages retain their fluidity. The speaker succeeds in conveying subtle nuances with exceptional resolution and texture, which is particularly noticeable in acoustic passages where detail takes center stage.

For those looking for a high-quality reference speaker with controlled dynamics and a realistic stereo image, the ATC SCM20ASL Classic is a compelling choice. Background Information

The ATC SCM20ASL Classic is an active studio monitor known for its precision and clarity. Designed by the ATC team, with significant contributions from founder Billy Woodman, the design philosophy focuses on accurate sound reproduction without coloration. The cabinet is made of high-quality MDF with a veneer finish, designed for minimal resonance. The internal wiring uses oxygen-free copper for optimal signal integrity, while the drivers are manufactured in-house. ATC pays close attention to material selection, with a focus on durability and performance.

Brand history

ATC was founded in 1974 by Billy Woodman in the United Kingdom. That same year, the company developed a 12-inch bass driver, the PA75-314, intended for professional applications. In 1985, ATC introduced a monitor loudspeaker with an in-house developed Soft Dome midrange unit. This was followed in 1989 by the brand’s first complete loudspeaker, the SCM50A. In 1996, the brand developed a self-designed amplifier with completely discrete components. In 2000, the first digital converter (DAC) was presented. As of 2011, ATC produces its own tweeters in the United Kingdom. The entire range, including transducers, amplifiers and speakers, is designed and produced in-house. In 2013, the electronics division was expanded with new product lines. In 2015, ATC released an integrated amplifier. In 2022, the company introduced a new active loudspeaker, the SCM20A Pro Mk2, with improved amplification and components.
