Background information

The REL 212 Black Label subwoofer is a masterpiece of engineering and design, focused on ultimate bass reproduction. Developed by REL Acoustics, this model features high-quality components such as carbon fiber material for lightweight yet rigid woofer constructions. The internal wiring has been carefully selected for optimal sound quality, while the enclosure is designed to minimize resonance. REL often uses high-quality MDF for robust and durable enclosures. The design philosophy centers on integration with audio systems to deliver a natural and powerful sound.

Brand history

REL Acoustics was founded by Richard Edmund Lord, born in 1939. After a stint as a radio operator in the merchant marine, he founded the company with the goal of building the best subwoofers. In 1990, REL introduced the High Level Input, which derives the input signal from the power amplifier, allowing for seamless integration with speakers. In 1998, the company developed the ABC Input Filters and High Current Amplifiers, focused on precise crossover settings and providing sufficient power for subwoofer drivers. After an acquisition in 2005, new ideas and technologies were introduced, including NaturalSound Filtering in 2007 and Carbon Fibre Driver Cones in 2010. In 2014, REL launched Zero Compression Wireless, followed by the No. 25 Anniversary Model in 2016 and the Series HT in 2018.
