General description<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
The KEF Reference 1 Meta is a three-way bookshelf speaker that delivers impressive sound. Thanks to the 12th generation Uni-Q driver with MAT\u2122 technology, a clear and precise sound image is created. The compact size makes this speaker suitable for a variety of rooms without compromising on performance. The Reference 1 Meta was designed, developed and handcrafted in Maidstone, Kent, UK.<\/span><\/div>\n
Background information<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
The KEF Reference 1 Meta was developed by KEF’s acoustic engineering team led by Jack Oclee-Brown. The speaker uses KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver with MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology), which dampens unwanted sound reflections. The cabinet is precision milled in Kent, UK and heavily reinforced internally. The wiring is high quality, components carefully selected for optimal acoustics. <\/span><\/div>\n
Brand history<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
KEF was founded in 1961 in Maidstone, Kent, by former BBC ringmaster Raymond Cooke. The name is derived from Kent Engineering & Foundry, the site on which its first headquarters was located. In its early years, the company developed products using synthetic materials and mathematical models. KEF introduced the Reference concept in 1973, where each pair of systems was electronically matched. In the 1980s, KEF used digital technologies to optimize production. In 1988, the first computer-aided acoustic measurement system was used. Uni-Q driver technology was introduced in 1988 and has been used in several models since then. KEF has had collaborations with outside designers, including Ross Lovegrove. In 2011, the Blade, the first model based on the concept of a single point source, was released. KEF has offices worldwide, including Hong Kong, Germany, France, Japan and the US.
