General description<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
This integrated amplifier combines a tube preamplifier with a solid-state power amplifier. The preamplifier uses two 12AX7a and two 12AT7 vacuum tubes housed in protective cages. The power amplifier delivers 100 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 160 watts per channel at 4 ohms. The all-analog design offers two unbalanced, one balanced and one Moving Magnet phono input for turntables. All four inputs can be given user-friendly names for easy operation. Bass and treble controls allow the sound to be adjusted to personal preference. A subwoofer output is available for connecting an active subwoofer to amplify low frequencies. The amplifier features patented heat sinks connected to advanced transistors, eliminating warm-up time. A powerful microprocessor ensures smooth operation, while high-quality audio components deliver the best possible sound. In addition, Power Guard\u00ae technology protects speakers by monitoring the output signal and preventing clipping. Upon activation, the vacuum tubes flash amber and return to green when the signal returns to normal. The amplifier has a polished stainless steel chassis with a classically designed nameplate on each side. <\/span><\/div>\n

McIntosh Laboratory, founded in 1949 by Frank H. McIntosh and Gordon Gow, is located in Binghamton, New York. In 1965, McIntosh amplifiers were used during President Lyndon B. Johnson’s inauguration speech. In 1969, twenty McIntosh MC3500 tube amplifiers provided the sound for the Woodstock festival. In 1974, the Grateful Dead used 48 McIntosh MC2300 amplifiers for their “Wall of Sound” system. In 1990, McIntosh was acquired by Clarion, followed by a takeover by D&M Holdings in 2003.
