General description<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
The KEF Reference 3 is a floorstanding loudspeaker known for its clear and detailed sound reproduction. With the 12th generation Uni-Q driver array, in which the tweeter is placed in the center of the midrange cone, accurate and coherent sound distribution is achieved. This design creates a spacious and focused soundstage, bringing music to life with impressive clarity and dynamics. <\/p>\n

The Reference 3 is equipped with two 16.5 cm woofers that ensure tight and controlled bass reproduction. The enclosure is carefully designed to minimize resonances, contributing to pure and undistorted sound reproduction. With a frequency range extending from 43 Hz to 35 kHz, this speaker offers a wide spectrum of sounds, from deep lows to sparkling high frequencies. <\/p>\n

Thanks to Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), unwanted sounds are effectively absorbed, resulting in an even more natural and transparent sound. This technology contributes to the accurate reproduction of subtle details in music, giving listeners an immersive experience. <\/p>\n

Background information<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
The KEF Reference 3 was developed by KEF’s acoustics team led by Jack Oclee-Brown. The speaker uses the 12th-generation Uni-Q driver with a 25 mm aluminum dome tweeter and a 125 mm midrange in a coaxial design. Each pair is hand-built and meticulously matched at KEF’s factory in Maidstone, England. The enclosure is inert and rugged, with internal bracing and damping for minimal resonance. All components, including internal wiring, are carefully selected for maximum transparency. <\/span><\/div>\n
Brand history<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
KEF was founded in 1961 in Maidstone, Kent, by former BBC ringmaster Raymond Cooke. The name is derived from Kent Engineering & Foundry, the site on which its first headquarters was located. In its early years, the company developed products using synthetic materials and mathematical models. KEF introduced the Reference concept in 1973, where each pair of systems was electronically matched. In the 1980s, KEF used digital technologies to optimize production. In 1988, the first computer-aided acoustic measurement system was used. Uni-Q driver technology was introduced in 1988 and has since been used in several models. KEF has had collaborations with outside designers, including Ross Lovegrove. In 2011, the Blade, the first model based on the single point source concept, was released. KEF has offices worldwide, including Hong Kong, Germany, France, Japan and the US.
